Quiet Times on the Farm

We’ve been working hard on the farm this week. We made and wrapped over two hundred large square bales of wet hay.

We also ran the spring herd through the chute. I worked the pen, but I did take time to climb up on a gate and take a pic of my family working which is posted somewhere on Facebook. I also took a pic of #16. She likes to look at me. : ) I stayed behind her, though, and didn’t take my eyes off her, so I didn’t have any problems. Thankfully. : )

We have a couple of late calvers we’re watching and in a few weeks we should have our first embryo calves on the ground. We’re all pretty excited about that.

We’ve been helping the neighbors a bit, and I’m not sure if I told you we have some pigs we’ve been feeding. They weren’t in very good shape when we got them a couple of months ago. They were from a farrowing barn and I think we got a mixture of runts and orphans.

We lost two of the ten we brought home, but they’re all doing great, although we’ve kept the smallest three in Virginia, while the other five are in Pennsylvania. They love eating our cracked eggs and it keeps us from throwing them away.

We’re still bottle feeding a twin calf whose mother rejected him, and we have two broody hens who are sitting on a dozen or so eggs.

We’ve been having company and will have more this week. We’re trying to get in as much visiting as we can with family and old friends before school starts in PA.

So, yeah, it’s been extremely busy, but thankfully, quiet, with no life or death stories to tell. : )

Thanks so much for spending time with me today!

Have a beautiful weekend!

Hugs and love,

~Jessie
